[Financial News] The infant formula market has continued to grow so far this year, buoyed by an increase in births and the premium childcare trend.
According to Statistics Korea on the 7th, the number of babies born in South Korea rose for the second consecutive year, from 230,028 in 2023 to 238,317 in 2024 and 254,457 last year. In particular, births last year showed a clear rebound, increasing 6.8% from the previous year.
Against this backdrop, Ildong Foodis’s infant formula category sales rose about 35% in the first half of this year compared with the same period a year earlier.
In particular, Hoodis Goat Milk Infant Formula, a premium baby-food product and the domestic leader in goat milk formula, drove growth in the overall infant formula category, with sales rising about 30% year on year over the same period.
Hoodis Goat Milk Infant Formula is a premium baby-food product made directly with New Zealand goat’s milk using the company’s proprietary GS (Gentle & Soft) process, developed with digestion and absorption in mind.
True Mom, a premium infant formula brand made with cow’s milk, is also strengthening its market position amid the trend toward premium childcare. In fact, True Mom sales rose about 42% year on year in the first half of this year.
True Mom is a product made with milk from healthy cows raised in Australia and formulated with tailored nutrition for each stage of growth.
Iyam, a baby-food brand offering products with nutrition designed for each stage of growth, also saw sales rise about 10% year on year in the first half of this year.
An Ildong Foodis representative said, “With births increasing for the second consecutive year, expectations are growing for a recovery in the infant and toddler food market, including infant formula,” adding, “We will bring reliable products to market, drawing on our expertise in infant and toddler nutrition.”
