[Financial News] LG Uplus is going directly to residents of remote and mountainous areas who have difficulty visiting a telecom store, as well as digitally underserved groups. It is converting vehicles into mobile stores to offer SIM replacements and telecom bill consultations, and will also teach people how to use smartphones and prevent voice phishing.
LG Uplus said on the 7th that it would operate the “Visiting Store” service to provide these services. The interior of each Hyundai Solati vehicle has been fitted out as a space for customer consultations and lessons. One vehicle will be stationed in each of the Yeongnam and Honam regions, with a three-person staff team in each vehicle expected to visit remote and mountainous areas, small cities without telecom stores, and areas with large older populations.
On site, the staff will replace SIM cards (USIMs) and provide consultations on home and mobile phone bills. They will also explain how to use digital devices and services safely through smartphone-use lessons and voice-phishing prevention education.
The vehicles have an area for consultations, a monitor and storage space for informational materials inside. Awnings, tables and chairs can be set up outside to create consultation and waiting areas suited to conditions at each site.
The mobile stores will also be deployed at local festivals and events. LG Uplus plans to offer telecom consultations and power bank rentals, and provide information on bundled internet, IPTV and mobile plans. Small business owners will be able to receive consultations on telecom services needed to run their stores, including CCTV, point-of-sale terminals and internet.
At disaster relief sites, such as those affected by floods or wildfires, LG Uplus plans to provide free Wi-Fi, smartphone charging and power bank rentals.
Jeong Cheol, head of LG Uplus’s Consumer Sales Group, said, “The Visiting Store is a new customer touchpoint that goes beyond the existing approach of customers coming to a store and instead goes directly to the regions and sites where telecom services are needed. We will expand our field-oriented activities so that customers can conveniently access the consultations and digital education they need, regardless of their region or age.”
