[Financial News] Garmin is unveiling the Approach S72, a golf smartwatch with enhanced swing and putting analysis features. It is designed to help golfers plan their approach to the course and practice using swing metrics measured at the wrist and green slope data.
Garmin said it will begin selling the Approach S72, its new flagship golf smartwatch, on its official website on the 14th. It will be available in two sizes, 43 mm and 47 mm, both with a recommended retail price of 1.19 million won.
The Approach S72 measures heart rate in real time and shows changes before and after shots. Its wrist-based swing metrics include hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation, allowing users to assess their swing tendencies.
The Green Reading feature uses green slope data to show the direction the ball will break when putting and the average slope percentage. It also provides aerial images of actual holes, allowing golfers to review target areas for their next shot and layup points.
After a round, users can check their putting speed, directional bias and success rate in the Garmin Golf app. Swing metrics can also be tracked at the practice range, and practice records are saved in the Garmin Connect app.
The product features an AMOLED display, a titanium bezel and a sapphire lens. It also comes with the newly introduced ComfortFit fabric band.
It is also the first Garmin golf smartwatch to include a built-in speaker and microphone. When connected to a compatible smartphone, users can make calls or issue voice commands from the watch. It also has an LED flashlight with white and red light.
Everyday health features include wrist-based heart rate monitoring, stress tracking, Body Battery energy monitoring and sleep monitoring. It also offers activity profiles for recording a range of workouts beyond golf. According to Garmin, the 47 mm model’s battery lasts up to 20 hours on the golf course and up to 16 days with GPS turned off.
To mark the launch, Garmin will hold a “Garmin Zone” event at Wolsong-ri CC on the 31st. Customers playing a round who land their tee shot in the Garmin Zone set up on the fairway of the first hole will receive an entry for a prize drawing. The prizes include the Approach S72 and Garmin merchandise. A space to try Garmin golf products will also be set up at the start house.
From November 10 to 12, Garmin will hold its Garmin Golf Club (GGC) Gathering Event in Bangkok, Thailand, with participants from nine countries, including South Korea. South Korea will be represented by GGC coach and Korea Professional Golfers’ Association (KPGA) professional Jang Seong-hun, along with other key members.
Susan Lyman, Garmin’s vice president of global consumer sales and marketing, said, “We’ve brought together in one product the professional features people expect from a golf smartwatch and smartwatch features that are useful in everyday life.”
