Everland said on the 7th that kochia blooming along the Sky Garden Trail is turning red, heralding the start of the fall foliage season.
Kochia is a plant known for its rounded shape and is called daepssari in Korea. Its stems have long been dried and used to make brooms.
Daepssari is characterized by its leaves and stems turning red as chlorophyll decreases and anthocyanin pigments increase from early autumn. When the fall colors reach their peak, it takes on an intense red hue and is also known as “Burning Bush.”
Kochia along the Sky Garden Trail is currently changing from green to pink, and is expected to peak around this weekend.
An Everland official said, “Other trees around the walking paths, including maples and ginkgoes, are also gradually changing color, so the fall foliage is expected to continue in earnest from the end of this month into early next month.”
