[Financial News] Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. is teaming up with global quantitative asset manager AQR Capital Management (AQR) to expand its global investment products for domestic investors.
The plan is to move beyond a traditional focus on stocks and bonds and offer domestic investors a range of global investment strategies, including quantitative and alternative investments.
Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Korea Investment Holdings, said on the 7th that it had met with AQR at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 6th to discuss business cooperation, including supplying global investment products for domestic investors.
The meeting was attended by key representatives of both companies, including Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. President Kim Seong-hwan and AQR Co-Founding Principal John M. Liew. The meeting followed talks between Kim and AQR representatives during his visit to New York last September.
The two companies are discussing how to develop AQR-managed global investment products for distribution in South Korea. They are currently discussing domestic registration and launch schedules for the products, and plan to gradually expand their lineup of global offerings by combining their respective strengths.
AQR is a global asset manager that identifies investment ideas through quantitative analysis and implements systematic portfolio management strategies. Founded in 1998, it is headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, and operates a global network of offices in major financial markets, including India, Hong Kong, London and Sydney.
Its assets under management total about $253 billion (approximately 357 trillion won). It manages a range of investment strategies, spanning traditional assets such as equities, macro, arbitrage and multistrategy approaches, as well as alternative investments.
Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. plans to broaden the global investment choices available to domestic investors through this partnership. In addition to its existing global products focused on stocks and bonds, it aims to increase access to a range of strategies used in global markets, including quantitative and alternative investments.
“Growing client interest in global investing has been accompanied by rising demand for a range of investment strategies that goes beyond simple geographic and asset diversification,” said Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. President Kim Seong-hwan. “By combining AQR’s accumulated quantitative investment expertise with Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd.’s strengths in products and retail, we will continue to offer domestic investors more diverse and differentiated global investment opportunities.”
