[Financial News] Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. has won a contract worth approximately 870 billion won to build a data center in Wonchang-dong, Incheon.
Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. said on the 7th that it had won the contract for the Incheon Wonchang-dong Data Center project. The latest contract follows last week’s win for the Gunsan SGC AI Data Center, marking another consecutive success. Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. said its data center business, which it has been developing as a future growth engine, has entered a full-fledged growth trajectory.
The project was commissioned by Cheongna IDC PFV, established by Ido Terra One, and involves building a 50-megawatt-class data center in Wonchang-dong, Seohae-gu, Incheon. The facility will have four basement levels and 11 above-ground floors. Construction is scheduled to begin this November, with completion expected in the second half of 2029. Its proximity to existing data center hubs in the Seoul metropolitan area is expected to provide excellent telecommunications connectivity, and it is also considered highly accessible from Incheon International Airport and Gimpo International Airport.
Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. will handle the architectural, civil engineering, facilities, landscaping and telecommunications work, while its co-contractor, kt cloud, will take charge of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) work.
Last July, Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. announced a new value system and began pursuing portfolio innovation, moving beyond its traditional engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)-centered structure to develop future energy and advanced industrial construction as new growth pillars. Data centers are a key business representing this strategy. The company is strengthening its competitiveness by emphasizing “integrated value in space and energy,” combining its accumulated expertise in building spaces with its energy-sector capabilities.
The company is focusing on building end-to-end capabilities spanning design, construction and maintenance, led by a dedicated team. It is also strengthening core technical capabilities, including data-center-specific off-site construction (OSC) methods to shorten construction times, high-efficiency cooling systems, fire and disaster response, and security infrastructure. In addition, it is developing data center energy procurement models that integrate renewables such as solar power with next-generation energy sources such as small modular reactors (SMRs) and hydrogen.
A Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. spokesperson said, “Our strategy of developing data centers as a future growth engine is paying off, as we continue to win contracts, drawing on our track record and competitiveness in high-tech construction fields such as advanced industrial construction.” The spokesperson added, “We will continue to expand our data center business, a key piece of infrastructure in the AI era, by leveraging our differentiated capabilities in connecting space and energy.”
