[Financial News] Shinsegae Food said on the 7th that the number of No Brand Burger locations operating on university campuses and in nearby commercial districts had reached 27, up 54% from the previous year.
University-area locations also rose to account for 10% of all No Brand Burger outlets.
The recently opened KAIST location has seen a steady stream of campus customers, including students and faculty and staff, and strong demand not only at lunchtime but also in the evening. Shinsegae Food said it attributed this performance to the combination of university-area customers’ demand for meals, reasonable prices and convenient service. The company explained that many students want to fit a meal into a short break between classes, for example, and that they show a strong preference for affordable offerings, including items in the 2,000-won range, that can be ordered and enjoyed quickly.
In particular, university-area locations have high table turnover as customers seek quick and convenient meals, so new openings have focused on “compact stores,” a low-capital startup model. At about 50 square meters (15 pyeong), compact stores are a specialized format that lowers the initial investment compared with existing locations while optimizing kitchen workflow and use of space. In fact, about 40% of No Brand Burger locations operating in university areas are compact stores.
A Shinsegae Food representative said, “University-area commercial districts are characterized by concentrated demand from customers such as students and faculty and staff, as well as a strong preference for convenient meals at reasonable prices,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the foundation for franchisees to operate their stores stably and grow together through expansion strategies and operational support tailored to the characteristics of each commercial district.”
