[Financial News] Samsung Electronics is bringing works from the British Museum, a national museum representing the UK, to Samsung TVs. The company aims to expand its collaborations with world-renowned art galleries and museums and transform TVs from simple viewing devices into platforms for enjoying artworks at home.
Samsung Electronics said on the 7th that it would make 30 highlights from the British Museum's collection available on Samsung Art Store, its art subscription service for Samsung TVs. Samsung Art Store lets viewers enjoy works by major museums and artists from around the world on Samsung TVs. It currently offers at least 5,000 works in 4K resolution in collaboration with around 80 partners.
The collaboration builds on the longstanding partnership between Samsung Electronics and the British Museum. Samsung Electronics is an official corporate partner of the special exhibition 'Korea: 2,000 Years of Creativity,' which opened at the British Museum on the 1st. The exhibition runs through January 31 next year.
The newly unveiled 'British Museum Collection' centers on landscape paintings representing the golden age of 19th-century British art. It includes numerous works by John Constable, a master of British landscape painting, and Joseph Mallord William Turner, who revolutionized the use of light and color.
Constable's 'Willy Lott's Cottage' and 'The Mill at Fisherton,' among other works, capture the English countryside and ever-changing skies and weather. Viewers can also see Turner's 'Storm (Shipwreck)' and 'The Colosseum, Rome.' The collection features a variety of works, from storm-tossed seas to cityscapes of Venice, Rome and Zurich.
The TVs' anti-reflection technology reduces glare, allowing viewers to enjoy the works clearly even in bright sunlight or with the lights on. The British Museum Collection can be viewed across the entire Samsung Art TV lineup, including OLED TVs launched this year, The Frame, The Frame Pro, Micro RGB and Neo QLED models.
Samsung Electronics is also continuing to expand the global cultural and arts content on Samsung Art Store. It currently partners with the Louvre Museum, Musée d'Orsay, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tate, among others. Last December, it teamed up with the National Museum of Korea to launch the 'Lee Kun-hee Collection,' making 20 representative Korean works available for free.
Lee Gwi-ho, vice president of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, said, "Samsung Electronics will work to make it easier for more Samsung TV users to access world-class works of art through technology."
