[Financial News] A treatment combining the benefits of pulsed field ablation, considered a next-generation treatment for arrhythmia, and conventional radiofrequency ablation in a single procedure has made its debut in Korea.
Samsung Medical Center said on the 7th that it had performed Dual Energy Ablation (DEA) on a patient with atrial fibrillation for the first time in Korea.
DEA is an advanced arrhythmia treatment that can deliver both pulsed field ablation (PFA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) through a single catheter. Because medical teams can choose the energy best suited to the patient’s condition and treatment goals during the procedure, it allows for more flexible treatment.
For example, PFA is used to treat areas of the heart wall close to the esophagus or phrenic nerve because it causes less damage to surrounding tissue. RFA is used when the heart wall is thick or energy needs to be delivered deep into the tissue.
On Young-geun, head of the Arrhythmia Center at Samsung Medical Center and a professor of cardiology, said, “Combining conventional RFA with PFA, considered a next-generation treatment for arrhythmia, has made it possible to develop more flexible and personalized treatment strategies for patients. We will continue to drive innovation in arrhythmia treatment and provide patients with a better treatment experience.”
