[Financial News] A man in his 50s who broke into the home of a woman in her 80s, a neighbor he had known for years, and attempted to rape her has been sent to prosecutors while in custody. He was found to have a criminal record, having served a prison sentence for a previous sex crime.
Naju Police Station in South Jeolla Province said on the 6th that it had sent a man in his 50s, identified only as A, to prosecutors in custody on suspicion of attempted rape, trespassing, and indecent assault under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
A is accused of breaking into the home of B, a woman in her 80s, in Naju, South Jeolla Province, on the morning of the 14th of last month, forcibly sexually assaulting her and attempting to rape her, but failing. The investigation confirmed that the two had been neighbors for several years.
A had previously committed a sex crime, for which he was sentenced to prison and served time. However, he was not subject to wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet at the time of this offense, according to the investigation.
After receiving a report of the crime, police immediately launched an investigation and arrested A at his home on the afternoon of the day of the offense. A reportedly admitted to all of his crimes during police questioning.
Police judged that there was a high risk of reoffending and flight, in addition to A’s prior record for a similar offense, and sought an arrest warrant. The court issued the warrant, and police sent the case to prosecutors.
