[Financial News] As protests continue against the actors and production company over the historical distortion controversy surrounding the film “Assassin(s),” police have begun taking protective measures for lead actor Yoo Hae-jin.
According to police on the 6th, Seoul Seongbuk Police Station activated safety measures at the request of Yoo’s agency. Police provided Yoo with a smartwatch and registered him in the 112 system, while also increasing patrols near his home. However, they did not assign dedicated officers.
A police official explained, “Safety measures can be taken whenever there are concerns that someone’s safety may be at risk, regardless of whether actual harm has occurred.”
This came as concerns about threats to Yoo’s safety grew, with conservative groups continuing to hold rallies condemning the film in front of a detached house in Seongbuk-gu identified as his home since the 4th, and threatening remarks also appearing online.
Earlier, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief Go Beom-seok said at his regular press briefing that day, “Any harm or threats against actors will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law,” adding, “If we determine that safety issues could arise, we will take additional measures, such as increasing patrols or providing personal protection.”
