[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung had lunch on the 6th with the acting heads of the Prosecution Agency, Serious Crimes Investigation Agency and National Police Agency. The meal was arranged immediately after a Cabinet meeting, with all three agencies lacking permanent heads.
Kang Yoo-jung, Cheong Wa Dae's senior spokesperson, said in response to a related question at a briefing at Chunchugwan that afternoon, "We can confirm that a luncheon was scheduled."
Regarding remarks made at lunch, she explained that they were "in line with what he said publicly during the Cabinet meeting" and that "he made various remarks about the newly launched agencies." She did not disclose the specific comments made over lunch.
According to media reports, those attending the lunch held at Cheong Wa Dae that noon included Lee Jeong-hyeon, acting head of the Prosecution Agency; Jeon Jong-min, acting head of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency; and Kim Jong-cheol, acting chief of the National Police Agency. Prime Minister Han Seong-sook was also reportedly present.
The gathering was reportedly arranged to explain the purpose and significance of prosecution reform to the newly established agencies and to emphasize the operation of a criminal justice system serving the public.
At the Cabinet meeting earlier that day, President Lee also pointed out that powers such as investigation, indictment and maintaining prosecutions had been concentrated in the prosecution service in the past and abused. He described the launch of the Prosecution Agency and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency as the people's "historic decision" and called for rigorous investigations and a thorough fact-finding regardless of political side or party.
