“There is absolutely no manipulation or staging” ... Kim Min speaks out amid controversy over the old house on ‘I Live Alone’

[Financial News] Actor Kim Min, who showed his life in an old house in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province, on MBC’s ‘I Live Alone,’ denied rumors that the show had been manipulated. Kim told Maeil Business Star Today on the 6th, “There is absolutely no manipulation or staging.”
Regarding the various suspicions raised online, he said, “Viewers can be curious about all sorts of things, and I’m also very grateful that they seem to have watched so enthusiastically.”
Kim also addressed the perception that the house was a space created for the show. He said, “This place is truly, truly special to me,” explaining, “It’s a place filled with the precious memories of an older brother and older sister who are like family to me. They were born there, and the older brother’s father built the place himself.”
He said he was trying to preserve as much of the house’s original character as possible while renovating it. Kim said, “Because of a deep personal connection, I came to stay here. I’m spending my time gradually taking care of the things I can repair and fix while I’m here, while preserving those memories as much as possible. I’ll continue to do so.”
On ‘I Live Alone,’ which aired on MBC on the 2nd, Kim showed how he stayed in an old house in Dongducheon, using a generator for electricity and repairing the floor, among other things.
After the episode aired, some online communities questioned whether the house had been specially decorated for filming, comparing footage from the show with street-view images from a mapping service captured last July.
Questions were also raised about why he used a generator despite there being utility poles and power lines around the house. Kim explained to Star Today that the house had no electricity even before he began staying there.
Rather than respond to each allegation one by one, Kim intends to show viewers his life through the program. He said, “I think there will be opportunities to meet viewers again through ‘I Live Alone’ in the future.”
