【Financial News, Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok】 Spectators attending the 107th National Sports Festival in Jeju can receive up to 20,000 won per person in Tamna Jeon, Jeju’s local currency, by visiting venues such as stadiums and verifying their attendance.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 6th, the province will issue digital tickets using non-fungible token (NFT) technology to National Sports Festival spectators from the 16th to the 22nd.
Spectators can apply for a digital ticket on the National Sports Festival’s official website and then view the issued ticket in Naver Pay Wallet. Instead of paper admission tickets, the system uses tickets issued on smartphones to link admission and attendance verification with the distribution of benefits.
Under Naver Pay Wallet’s eligibility requirements, digital tickets are available to Korean nationals aged 14 or older. Children under 14 can attend the opening ceremony and visit stadiums with accompanying family members without a digital ticket.
Tamna Jeon is issued in amounts of 10,000 won each time attendance is verified at the opening ceremony, closing ceremony or a stadium visit. However, each person can receive a maximum of 20,000 won.
The verification method varies by location. At the opening and closing ceremonies, attendance is confirmed using smartphone scan records during entry. At each stadium, visitors verify their visit by tapping their smartphones on a near-field communication (NFC) tag installed at the venue.
The Tamna Jeon received can be spent at local businesses around the stadiums, including restaurants, cafes and traditional markets. The program is designed to ensure that spending by festival spectators extends beyond the stadiums to nearby restaurants, traditional markets and other businesses.
Digital ticket holders will also receive tourism benefits. They can enter 24 designated public tourist attractions in Jeju for free or receive a 50% discount on admission. The aim is to combine sports spectating with tourism and increase visitors’ stays in Jeju and opportunities for local spending during the festival.
The 107th National Sports Festival, hosted by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and organized by Jeju Province, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sports Council, will be held across Jeju from the 16th to the 22nd. The country’s largest multisport event will feature 50 sports and 30,599 participants, including athletes, officials and members of overseas Korean organizations.
Jeju Province plans to check every step of the process in advance, from ticket issuance through admission, attendance verification and benefit distribution, and to operate an on-site information and real-time response system.
Hong Ho-jin, head of Jeju Province’s National Sports Festival Planning Team, said, “This is a participatory program designed to let spectators cheer on the athletes and enjoy Jeju’s flavors and charms. We will run it so that the festival can also give a boost to the local economy.”
