【Financial News | Jeju—Jeong Yong-bok】 High school students with developmental disabilities selected from 16 cities and provinces nationwide will gather in Jeju for the first time in 12 years to compete in vocational skills. The nationwide competition gives students a chance to showcase vocational abilities learned at school, including leathercraft, barista skills and office support.
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education on the 6th, the 2026 National Vocational Skills Competition for Students with Disabilities, hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the provincial office of education, will be held at the Jeju International Convention Center (ICC JEJU) on the 7th and 8th. About 700 people, including student competitors, accompanying teachers and officials from city and provincial offices of education, will participate.
This year marks the 54th time the competition has been held, and it has been 12 years since it was last held in Jeju. Students with developmental disabilities attending special schools and high schools with special education classes nationwide will take part after competing in regional preliminaries.
The competition is divided into two categories: special schools and special education classes. Six events—leathercraft, Robotron, barista skills, office support, food service and product packaging—will be held in each category, with students competing in 12 events in total. Robotron is a vocational skills event in which participants assemble robots using the parts provided.
Twelve students from Jeju will compete in all 12 events. They will compete against students from other regions in the same events, demonstrating the skills and work performance abilities they have developed through career and vocational education at school.
The National Vocational Skills Competition for Students with Disabilities was established to give students with disabilities opportunities to develop and improve vocational skills suited to their talents and aptitudes. It also serves as a forum for sharing information on career and vocational education and successful practices from each region.
This year's competition theme is “Dreams Nurtured Together, a Future Opened in Jeju.” Students who achieve outstanding results will receive awards including the Prime Minister's Award, the Minister of Education's Award and the competition chair's award.
Go Eui-suk, superintendent of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education, will attend the opening ceremony, welcome students and officials from city and provincial offices of education who have come to Jeju from across the country, and encourage the participating students.
