With 15 million pet owners, apartments compete with offerings targeting 'petfam' households

[Financial News] As the number of people who treat their pets like family—the so-called “petfam” households—grows, apartment design is also changing.
According to industry sources on the 6th, residential offerings with dedicated pet facilities inside individual units have recently been appearing one after another in the presale market.
HS Hwaseong’s Beomeo Station Park Dream Diar, supplied in Daegu’s Suseong District this year, is one example. The development incorporates “FIT WITH PET,” a residential offering designed for pets.
The units feature dedicated pet washbasins, scratch-resistant finishes and slip-resistant flooring. Other amenities include an inner entrance door, an on-site pet playground and a pet button in the elevators.
Forena Hillstate Jinju, supplied in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, last August, will have an on-site pet playground called a pet park. Hanwha Forena Ulsan Mugeo, supplied last year, offered buyers the option of a pet-specific washbasin equipped with a dedicated shower handle, a non-slip mat and a hair filter, in addition to a pet park.
Amid this trend, new developments incorporating pet-friendly designs are also being supplied one after another.
Daewon Co., Ltd.’s Gimpo Cantavil Edition, being developed in the Bukbyeon 2 District of Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, offers a “pet-specialized room” as a paid option for its 84m2A unit type. It allows pets to be bathed and dried, and their paws washed after outings, all in one space; storage is also provided for pet supplies. A key feature is that pet-care functions are grouped in a separate space, distinct from the general bathroom and utility room. Gimpo Cantavil Edition will comprise 612 units across nine buildings, with five basement levels and up to 24 floors above ground, in Bukbyeon-dong, Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. Units will have exclusive areas of 66, 84, 104 or 127m2.
Hillstate Songpa The Grid, being developed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction in Seoul’s Songpa District, will also feature “H With Pet,” a dedicated washing and drying care space for pets. The development will comprise 1,393 units across 10 buildings, with four basement levels and up to 16 floors above ground; exclusive areas will range from 34 to 119m2.
