【Financial News | Shinan — Hwang Tae-jong, Staff Writer】 Shinan County is pursuing the establishment of a “Child-Rearing Allowance” to ease the financial burden on families raising children and strengthen practical support for child-rearing.
The county aims to provide up to 700,000 won per month through age 7 (84 months), adding 400,000 won in county funds to the government’s monthly Child Allowance of 300,000 won. It plans to move ahead with the program in earnest starting next year, after preliminary social security consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the enactment of a relevant ordinance, in accordance with Article 26 of the Framework Act on Social Security.
According to Shinan County on the 6th, the planned establishment of the “Child-Rearing Allowance” is part of efforts to improve the welfare and healthcare system, a key pledge of the ninth popularly elected administration.
Shinan County Mayor Kim Tae-seong stressed, “The financial burden parents feel when raising a child—including the cost of formula, diapers, learning materials and education—is considerable. The county will ease the practical burden of child-rearing and make Shinan a place where children can be raised together with more generous support than in other cities and counties.”
Shinan County previously announced a policy to strengthen its child-care system, under the slogan “It takes an entire village to raise a child,” so that the local community shares the burden of having and raising children.
