[Financial News] HK inno.N Corp.'s Chinese partner has released results from a clinical trial of the obesity drug candidate ecnoglutide in adolescents.
HK inno.N Corp. said on the 6th that its Chinese partner, Sciwind Biosciences, presented results from a Phase 1b clinical trial of ecnoglutide in adolescents with obesity at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) meeting in Milan, Italy, on the 30th of last month (local time).
Ecnoglutide is a drug candidate for obesity and diabetes that targets the GLP-1 receptor. HK inno.N Corp. acquired the rights to develop and commercialize it in South Korea from Sciwind in 2024 and is currently conducting Phase 3 clinical trials in the country for obesity and diabetes.
The trial included 48 Chinese adolescents with obesity, aged 12 to 17. Participants received ecnoglutide at doses of 1.2 mg, 1.8 mg or 2.4 mg, or a placebo, and were treated for 20 weeks. Researchers assessed changes in body weight and BMI, metabolic markers and safety, among other measures.
At week 20, BMI in the ecnoglutide groups had decreased by 11.2% to 12.6% from before treatment. Body weight also fell by 10.4% to 12.1%. By contrast, weight in the placebo group increased by 1.2%, making the difference between the two groups statistically significant.
Waist and neck circumference also decreased, and major metabolic and cardiovascular indicators, including glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), triglycerides and blood pressure, showed a trend toward improvement. Safety and tolerability were generally favorable, and the drug's pharmacokinetic properties, including absorption and distribution in the body, were similar to those observed in studies of adults.
Sciwind plans to further assess the potential for developing ecnoglutide as a treatment for adolescent obesity based on these results. HK inno.N Corp. is also evaluating the drug's efficacy and safety for obesity and diabetes in a Phase 3 clinical trial in South Korea.
