Kangwon Land announced on the 6th that it will hold the second Untan Godo Trail Wish Path Trek on the 31st in and around High1 Resort, featuring the history and stories of the coal mines.
Hosted by Kangwon Land and Jeongseon County and organized by the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, the event uses the Untan Godo Trail, once a coal transport route, to offer an experience of coal-mining history. Around 3,000 people took part in the first event, held last year.
Participants can choose from three courses according to difficulty: the ‘Wish Fulfillment Trail,’ the ‘Wish Companion Trail’ and the ‘Wish Enjoyment Trail.’ Storytelling performances about miners’ lives and history will take place at the former coal mine’s 1177 mine gallery and at Dorongi Pond, while visitors can try traditional games at the site of the former Unrak Elementary School. Programs linked to local businesses, including sales of miners’ lunchboxes, are also planned.
The trekking participation fee is 25,000 won, of which 15,000 won will be refunded in local gift certificates to help revitalize businesses in areas transitioning away from the coal industry.
