[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung will hold a summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the 8th. The two leaders are expected to discuss plans to expand economic cooperation in areas including trade and investment, infrastructure and supply chains, and people-to-people exchanges.
Kang Yoo-jung, the Blue House’s senior spokesperson, said in a written briefing on the 6th that President el-Sisi would make a state visit to Korea from the 7th to the 9th at President Lee’s invitation. The meeting comes about 11 months after President Lee’s visit to Egypt last November. President el-Sisi’s visit to Korea is his first in 10 years, since 2016.
The two leaders will begin their official schedule on the morning of the 8th with an official welcoming ceremony, followed by a summit, a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony and a state luncheon. At the summit, they are also expected to discuss regional developments and international issues, in addition to economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Egypt is a key hub for international logistics linking Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Since establishing diplomatic relations with Korea in 1995, the two countries have developed cooperative ties in various fields, including the economy, culture and education.
Chief Spokesperson Kang said the visit was expected to serve as an important opportunity to develop Korea-Egypt relations into a strategic partnership and further strengthen cooperation between Korea and the regions of Africa and the Middle East.
