[Financial News] A shopper’s act of leaving a shopping cart in a large supermarket parking lot, blocking another vehicle’s door, has sparked controversy online.
On the 5th, a photo that appeared to have been taken in a large supermarket parking lot was posted on the social media platform Threads.
The photo showed a shopping cart between a parked car and a pillar right beside it. The cart was pressed close against the car parked within the lines, making it difficult to open the door or get in without moving the cart.
The poster, identified only as A, criticized the behavior, saying, “I don’t understand why they leave a cart like that, stopping other people from even opening their car doors, just for their own convenience.”
A added, “Isn’t it just basic common sense to return the cart to the cart bay?”
Comments from others who said they had experienced similar things followed. One user said people often leave carts behind the parking space close enough for them to touch a car’s trunk.
Others also shared stories of arguing with shoppers who left carts behind. One user claimed that when they told someone using the car next to theirs, who was leaving a cart between the cars, that it should be returned to its proper place, the person replied, “They take care of it themselves if you leave it there, don’t they?” The cart was eventually removed by staff, according to reports.
Users who saw the post responded, “Some people take their belongings out and leave the cart in the middle of the parking space,” “I’ve also seen people push a cart in front of someone else’s car and drive off,” and “There are cart-return spots all around—are they doing this just to save themselves a few steps?”
