[Financial News] Trot singer Suk Haeng partially lost a damages lawsuit filed by a woman who accused her of having an affair with her husband and was ordered to pay 30 million won. The ruling became final after neither side appealed.
According to Star News on the 6th, the Civil Division 7 of the Suwon District Court Seongnam Branch ruled on the 17th of last month that A had partially prevailed in a damages lawsuit filed against Suk Haeng for having an affair with A's husband.
The court ordered Suk Haeng to pay A 30 million won in damages plus late-payment interest. The ruling subsequently became final after neither side filed an appeal.
Suk Haeng had argued that she began dating A's husband believing that his marriage to A had already broken down, but the court rejected her claim.
The court ruled, "Suk Haeng is liable to compensate A for emotional damages because she engaged in an affair by dating and living with A's husband from January 2025," adding, "There is no evidence showing that A's marriage to her husband had already broken down at the time of the affair or that her husband deceived Suk Haeng by telling her it had."
The case came to light through JTBC's 'Scandal Supervisor' in December last year. At the time, A claimed that her husband had an affair with a famous trot singer, left home and was living with her. The program released CCTV footage showing a woman presumed to be Suk Haeng hugging or kissing A's husband, as well as holding his hand and embracing him.
Suk Haeng's name was not disclosed at the time. However, she told 'Scandal Supervisor' that A had said her marriage was already irretrievably broken, so she believed her and began dating A's husband. She said she ended the relationship after learning that the couple had not agreed to a divorce, adding that she was also a victim.
As the controversy grew, Suk Haeng issued a statement saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern over this personal matter that recently came to light. I will clarify the facts through legal proceedings." She then stepped down from the television program she had been appearing on.
B, who was identified as the man involved in the affair, claimed on the YouTube channel 'Yeon-ye Dtopresident Lee Jin-ho' in January that he met Suk Haeng through an acquaintance in 2024 and became close to her after separating from his wife in early February last year.
B said, "Suk Haeng does not deny meeting a married man, but she may have believed that the divorce had already been finalized because only the paperwork remained," adding, "You may place all responsibility on me. If financial damages occur, I will compensate for them."
