[Financial News] A father who found the hit-and-run driver who hit his 9-year-old daughter with help from netizens expressed his gratitude by donating to a childcare center.
According to the online community Bobaedream on the 5th, the father of the injured child, identified as Mr. A, posted an account of the hit-and-run suspect's arrest.
Mr. A said he donated sushi, pork cutlets, snacks, beverages and other items to Mudeung Childcare Center in Ullim-dong, Dong District, Gwangju.
Earlier, Mr. A said his daughter was at risk of losing three permanent teeth after a hit-and-run accident on the 23rd of last month in an underpass behind Dosan Station in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. He appealed for help by posting a message on the community on the 30th seeking witnesses.
A police investigation identified the motorcycle rider responsible as Mr. B, a Thai man in his 30s who was living in the country illegally. Mr. B had already been detained on drug-use charges, and admitted to the hit-and-run after repeated questioning by police. Ms. C, a Thai woman who had been riding as a passenger, also turned herself in and is expected to be forcibly deported soon.
Describing his meeting with Ms. C on the 2nd, Mr. A wrote, "I didn't say anything and just looked at her face." He added, "She stood up, greeted me, and apologized."
He also dismissed as a baseless rumor the claim circulating in Thai online communities that "a Korean caused the accident and the Thai people merely helped," saying it did not match witness statements.
Because the motorcycle involved was uninsured, there are limits to the compensation available, and his daughter requires long-term treatment. Even so, Mr. A expressed his gratitude for the attention and support from netizens.
Mr. A shared his feelings, saying, "I felt I had received so much kindness and wondered how to repay it. Then I thought donating was the only thing you all would appreciate most."
