[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 6th, "South Korea must become an electricity-centered country, and renewable energy is at the heart of that transition. Solar power will inevitably be central among renewable energy sources." He added that the government should consider using idle farmland as sites for solar power generation.
President Lee made the remarks at a Cabinet meeting he chaired at Cheong Wa Dae after receiving a report on a comprehensive survey of farmland. "It seems that now is the time," he said.
President Lee referred to issues such as permits and approvals, saying, "It appears that converting farmland for solar power projects can generate substantial income. Doesn't it generate several times more income than ordinary farming?"
He continued, "The government is revitalizing regions, local areas, and rural and fishing communities. We need to establish the foundation that allows people to return to rural areas. We must create a system that enables joint participation once consent is obtained—for example, by providing comprehensive support for permits or funding for facilities and handling the process on their behalf."
