Lee Mi-yeon begins official tenure as South Korean ambassador to Vietnam, presents credentials to Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam

【Hanoi, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok】Newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Lee Mi-yeon presented her credentials to To Lam, the Party General Secretary and President, and began her official tenure in Vietnam.
According to Vietnamese government announcements and other sources on the 6th, Ambassador Lee called on To Lam, the Party General Secretary and President, at the Presidential Palace on the 3rd, presented her credentials and held a private meeting with him.
Ambassador Lee conveyed President Lee Jae-myung’s greetings and said she was honored to take up her post as ambassador to Vietnam at a time when relations between the two countries were growing strongly.
Ambassador Lee said she would give serious consideration to General Secretary Lam’s views on the main directions for South Korea-Vietnam relations and key areas of cooperation, stressing, “South Korea attaches great importance to its relationship with Vietnam and gives it priority, and hopes to continue to accompany Vietnam through its new stage of development.” She also said, “We reaffirm that Vietnam is South Korea’s key partner in ASEAN, and hope South Korean companies will have opportunities to participate in major projects in Vietnam,” and pledged to work closely with relevant agencies in both countries to ensure the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, to be held in Phu Quoc in 2027.
Ambassador Lee added that she would do her utmost to serve as a bridge and develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between South Korea and Vietnam in a substantive and effective way, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
General Secretary To Lam congratulated Ambassador Lee on taking up her post and conveyed his greetings to President Lee Jae-myung. He said, “I expect Ambassador Lee to work closely with Vietnam’s ministries and local governments and to play her role in promoting relations between our two countries effectively.”
General Secretary Lam said Vietnam attaches great importance to its relationship with South Korea and stressed that he hoped to continue expanding cooperation, building on the results of recent exchanges between the two countries’ leaders. Specifically, he proposed stepping up high-level exchanges and exchanges at all levels; successfully holding events in 2027 to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Vietnam; effectively implementing existing cooperation commitments and agreements; strengthening defense and security cooperation; and achieving breakthroughs in economic, scientific and technological cooperation. In particular, he called for the two countries to reach their goal of increasing bilateral trade to $100 billion in 2026 and $150 billion in 2030 as soon as possible.
General Secretary Lam also requested that South Korea share its experience and support Vietnam’s preparations for the 2027 APEC summit, and said the two countries should further strengthen cooperation in culture, tourism, labor and between local governments, as well as coordination on major international and regional issues.
