The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said on the 6th that they held the 'Korea Sound Journey' event on the 2nd around Changgyeonggung Palace and Hwigyeomjae in Seoul. About 100 foreign tourists listened to and recorded Korean sounds themselves.
The event was organized to expand into a real travel experience the message of 'Begin to Hear Korea,' an overseas promotional video for Korean tourism released last July. The video features actor Park Bo-gum, who has served as an honorary ambassador for Korean tourism for two consecutive years, embarking on a journey to discover sounds from across Korea with Danish musician Ki.
About 100 foreign tourists and global influencers from more than 20 countries, including China, Japan, the United States and Thailand, took part. They were selected from among about 2,300 participants in the 'Sound Quiz: Where in Korea?' event held on the KTO YouTube channel, 'VISITKOREA.'
Participants walked around Changgyeonggung Palace, recording and listening to the sounds of the palace and everyday life with professional soundwalkers. Ten foreign influencers will produce and share social media content based on their experiences at the event.
Later, at the nearby hanok Hwigyeomjae, Park Bo-gum and the participants enjoyed quizzes using sounds they had recorded themselves, a Korean tourism balance game, and behind-the-scenes stories from the filming of the promotional video.
Kevin S. Park, president of the KTO, said, "We will continue to introduce new travel experiences that go beyond simply seeing destinations, allowing visitors to directly experience and remember Korea's sounds, atmosphere and people's daily lives."
