[Financial News] Kim Jae-won, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, praised the recent political activities of Han Dong-hoon, an independent lawmaker, saying, "He is doing very well." However, Kim took a cautious stance on Han's possible return to the People Power Party, saying, "It could cause intraparty discord."
On the 5th, Kim appeared on the YTN (Yonhap Television News) radio program "Jang Sung-cheol's News Myeongdang." Asked by the host, "What do you think about Han's activities?" Kim replied, "As an independent lawmaker, Han has been very active in his legislative activities, and he appears to be making considerable efforts to fulfill his role."
Regarding Han's continued criticism of issues including the prosecution's investigation of former President Roh Moo-hyun, Kim assessed, "In my view, the fact that he is bringing up the issue of former President Roh is less about trying to fight Roh than reflecting the view that the reason the prosecution is now being dismantled is ultimately tied to former President Roh's death, and that the left-wing camp is trying to annihilate the prosecution as an extension of that issue."
Asked whether Han needed to return to the party, Kim said, "Many people are making that argument, and I think such a move will proceed after more discussion over time." However, he held back, adding, "I think people are being very cautious because discussing that issue now could cause intraparty discord."
He continued, "I think it would be best for many people to gather their views and make a decision. It is not a matter of whether we are reluctant or not. I have not changed my view that the conservative camp must form a united front and work together to bring down the Lee Jae Myung administration. However, I believe everyone also needs the will to form such a united front. I think that applies not only to us but also to Han."
He added, "Only by forming a united conservative front without causing discord can it truly be a united front. Otherwise, it could instead become a source of considerable discord. Therefore, I do not think it is appropriate for me to step forward. I believe the decision should be made after many people go through a process of building broad consensus."
