[Financial News] The selection of the final candidate for the next president of Suhyup Bank has once again failed to produce a result. After failing to reach a decision at its first meeting last month, the Bank President Candidate Recommendation Committee also failed to find a candidate who secured the support of at least four members at its second meeting, further delaying the appointment of the bank's next president.
According to financial industry sources on the 6th, the Bank President Candidate Recommendation Committee of Suhyup Bank held a meeting that day to discuss the selection of the final candidate for the next president, but failed to reach a decision.
Suhyup Bank said, "As no candidate received the support of at least four committee members at today's meeting, the committee plans to reconvene at a later date."
The committee consists of five members: three recommended by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Financial Services Commission (FSC), and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), and two from the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives. A candidate must receive the support of at least four of the five committee members to be recommended as the final candidate.
The committee also failed to select a final candidate at its first meeting on the 22nd of last month. At the time, Shin Hak-gi, the incumbent president of Suhyup Bank, was reportedly given three votes, while Lee Hyeong-ju, head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), received two.
There had been speculation that the meeting could produce a result as one candidate sought to secure additional votes, but the committee ultimately failed to reach an agreement. This confirmed once again the differences of opinion among committee members over Shin and Lee.
The committee plans to reconvene at a later date and continue the candidate selection process. With Shin's term ending on the 17th of next month, pressure on the committee over the appointment of the next bank president is expected to grow.
