[Financial News] Police have launched an investigation into allegations that Choi Seung-ho, chairman of the Samsung Electronics Branch Union of SGUU, contracted with his father-in-law’s company for rally supplies.
According to police on the 6th, Seoul Nowon Police Station will question Kim Soon Hwan, secretary-general of the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People’s Livelihood, who filed a complaint against Choi on charges of breach of trust and obstruction of business.
The committee filed a complaint against Choi with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 10th of last month, alleging breach of trust and obstruction of business. In the complaint, it claimed that Choi entrusted work related to rally supplies to his father-in-law’s company without excluding a family-affiliated business, raising concerns about the company-selection process.
Earlier, allegations emerged within Samsung Electronics that Choi had ordered vests from his father-in-law’s company while participating in activities of the Joint Struggle Headquarters.
After the allegations surfaced, Choi acknowledged that his father-in-law was the company’s representative but countered that the contract was not intended to provide an improper benefit to him or his relatives. Choi’s side explained that it moved forward with the contract after comparing the actual terms, including the price and delivery schedule.
