[Financial News] Shinhan Financial Group has launched a resource recycling initiative with its employees to donate and recycle unused items.
According to financial industry sources on the 6th, Shinhan Financial Group held Resource Circulation DAY on the 2nd as part of the Shin-green Challenge, collecting and recycling unused items from homes and offices. The Shin-green Challenge is an eco-friendly campaign whose name combines “Shinhan” and “green.”
Through Resource Circulation DAY, employees donated 61 pieces of sporting equipment, including hiking, golf, and fitness gear that was no longer being used at home, as well as 219 small flowerpots and orchid pots that could be recycled at the office.
Jin Ok-dong, chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, and Jung Sang-hyuk, president of Shinhan Bank, also joined this year's sporting-goods donation campaign after participating last year.
Shinhan Financial Group plans to sort the donated sporting goods and orchid pots that can be resold, deliver them to Goodwill Store, a vocational rehabilitation facility for people with disabilities, and put them up for resale. The small flowerpots will be repotted through employee volunteer activities and delivered to local children's centers in Andong, where Shinhan SOLbangul Forest is located.
Shinhan Financial Group said that approximately 600 employees participated in the first quarter of this year and donated 4,441 clothing items. In the second quarter, it collected and recycled 22,945 kg of unused electronic products, continuing quarterly resource recycling activities involving employee participation.
A Shinhan Financial Group official said, "We hope that employees' small actions will lead not only to the reuse of resources but also to spreading the value of sharing with the local community," adding, "We will continue eco-friendly activities involving employees through the Shin-green Challenge."
