[Financial News] Azelaic acid acne treatment cream is now available as a Korean-made product at neighborhood pharmacies.
GC Biopharma said on the 6th that it had launched Azelahill Cream, an azelaic acid acne treatment developed and manufactured in-house. The product received approval as an over-the-counter drug in July, becoming the first such product to receive approval from a Korean pharmaceutical company. It is also the first azelaic acid acne treatment brought to market by a domestic pharmaceutical company.
Azelaic acid is an ingredient included in acne treatment guidelines in Korea, the United States, Europe and Japan. It is used to treat various forms of acne, including inflammatory acne, whiteheads and blackheads.
GC Biopharma also considered ease of use during the product's development. It applied a laminate tube and used its proprietary technology to improve the cream's spreadability.
The company expects the launch to broaden consumer choice in Korea's azelaic acid acne treatment market, which has so far been dominated by imported products.
Jeong Jae-eun, a brand manager at GC Biopharma, said, "Azelahill Cream is an azelaic acid acne treatment that GC Biopharma developed and manufactures in-house," adding, "As we plan to actively advertise to consumers starting this year, we will continue to raise brand awareness so that it can establish itself as a new option for acne treatment."
