[Financial News] Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG) held a contest to discover ideas for utilizing vacant houses in Busan and awarded three winning entries.
HUG announced on the 6th that it had announced the results of the '2026 Vacant House Renovation Cooperation Project Idea Discovery Contest' and held an awards ceremony on the 2nd. As a public institution that relocated to Busan, HUG organized the contest to contribute to balanced regional development and social contribution by utilizing abandoned vacant houses in the region.
Under the theme of 'Ideas for Utilizing Vacant Houses,' the contest accepted renovation plans and bird's-eye views, selecting three entries through internal voting and consultation with external experts, including professors of urban planning and architecture.
The Grand Prize went to 'RE:DOCK Bongnae' (Yeongdo District, Busan), the Excellence Award went to 'TURN ON: Greenhouse that Lights Up Vacant Houses, ON室' (Yeongdo District, Busan), and the Merit Award went to 'Ami-dong MEDI-WELLNESS Village' (the West, Busan).
The Grand Prize-winning entry, 'RE:DOCK Bongnae,' proposed new housing demand centered on vacant houses in the Yeongdo shipyard area, where population decline and underdevelopment overlap. It was praised for effectively presenting vacant house renovation and regional co-prosperity through an innovative model that incorporated both the contest's objectives of balanced regional development and social contribution.
Choi In-ho, president of Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG), said, "The fundamental purpose of relocating public institutions to provincial areas is balanced regional development and social contribution," adding, "We will share and cooperate with local governments on the selected ideas so that they can contribute to actual regional development, and we will continue to identify projects that enable co-growth with local communities."
