[Financial News] SeAH Besteel has developed special steel materials for precision reducers used in robot joints and begun mass production. After supplying materials for industrial robot reducers to domestic precision reducer manufacturer SPG in February, the company plans to expand its product line to include special steel for humanoid robots.
SeAH Besteel said on the 6th that it had developed and commercialized special steel material for flex splines, a key component of robot reducers.
A reducer, which functions as a robot joint, lowers the motor's rotational speed and increases torque to precisely control the robot's movements.
The special steel material developed by SeAH Besteel is used in flex splines, which transmit motor power inside the reducer.
The company also applied a refining process to extend the material's fatigue life under repeated operation. SeAH Besteel said it improved the material's cleanliness by reducing impurities, including nonmetallic inclusions, using immersion reflux vacuum equipment.
According to SeAH Besteel, the material began being supplied to SPG in February for use in industrial robot reducers and has now entered the mass-production stage. SPG produces strain wave gears used in collaborative robots and other equipment, as well as precision reducers for industrial robots.
Building on the mass production of special steel materials for flex splines, SeAH Besteel plans to expand its lineup of special steel products for robots by developing additional steel grades for use in humanoid robots.
A SeAH Besteel official said, "We developed special steel material for robot reducers using domestic technology and entered the mass-production stage." The official added, "We plan to expand the development of high-quality special steel materials for robots."
