[Financial News] Kurly's packaged kimchi transaction value increased year on year in the third quarter. Small-sized products were particularly popular, driving the overall growth in packaged kimchi transaction value.
According to Kurly on the 6th, the transaction value of packaged kimchi from July through September increased 35% year on year. The number of packaged kimchi products also rose 28% during the same period.
By product size, the transaction value of small-sized products in the 100g-to-1kg range rose 39% year on year. Products in the 2-to-4kg range increased 26%, while large-sized products in the 5-to-10kg range grew 18%. The company analyzed that the convenience and practicality of small-sized products resonated with consumers, particularly those in one- and two-person households.
Kurly's private-label products also continued to grow. In September last year, Kurly jointly launched Jeilmatge Kurly whole-head kimchi and young radish kimchi with CJ CheilJedang. The transaction value of the two products this September was 56% higher than at the time of their launch. Among all young radish kimchi products sold on Kurly, the product ranked first in transaction value.
The transaction value of Kurly's "Refreshing Napa Cabbage Kimchi" also rose 58% over the past three months compared with the same period a year earlier. The 1.5kg product, packaged in half-head portions for greater convenience, ranked second across Kurly's entire kimchi category.
Kurly is also diversifying its product lineup. In July, it partnered with Daesang's Jongga to exclusively launch San Ho Won Kimchi in Korea, based on the recipe of San Ho Won, a Michelin one-star Korean restaurant in the United States. Kurly sells a wide range of packaged kimchi, from popular brands such as Jongga and bibigo to kimchi from premium hotels including The Chosun Hotel and Walkerhill Hotels & Resorts.
A Kurly representative said, "As cabbage prices have risen sharply recently, more consumers are turning to packaged kimchi because it reduces the effort and cost of making kimchi at home while allowing them to conveniently choose products that suit their tastes." The representative added, "We will continue to seek out a diverse range of products so that consumers can conveniently choose products that match their preferences."
