[Financial News] Seoul Metropolitan Government appointed Kim Hyun-chul, a professor at Yonsei University College of Medicine, as Seoul Chief Health Officer, a position responsible for reviewing city administration from the perspective of residents’ health and proposing policies. According to Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 6th, Professor Kim will assess how major city policies affect residents’ physical, mental, and social health and advise on ways to improve them. The Seoul Chief Health Officer is a part-time position held by an external expert for a two-year term.
Professor Kim graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine and went on to earn a master’s degree in economics from Yonsei University, a master’s degree in public health from Seoul National University, and a doctorate in economics from Columbia University. After serving as a professor at Cornell University, he was appointed a tenured professor at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He currently heads the Institute of Population and Human Capital. He has also served as the eighth honorary mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government and as a member of the Mutual Growth Subcommittee of the G3 Seoul Planning Committee.
Professor Kim will work to incorporate a health perspective into a range of areas, including health management policies such as Wrist Doctor 9988 and Seoul Fitness Field, as well as efforts addressing the low birth rate, care, mental health, social isolation, and an aging society.
Professor Kim said, "As a physician and economist, I will draw on my lifelong experience researching people to help improve the lives of Seoul’s residents in tangible ways through health policies that are evidence-based, sustainable, and developed in partnership with the private sector."
