[Financial News] LG Uplus is launching an artificial intelligence (AI) service that shares voice-phishing risk information detected during calls with Woori Bank in real time to prevent financial losses. When the AI call assistant ixi-O detects a suspicious call, the bank strengthens its monitoring of the customer's financial transactions.
LG Uplus said on the 6th that it would offer the "ixi-O Voice Phishing Financial Safety" service by linking financial and telecommunications information with Woori Bank.
When the AI call app ixi-O detects a suspected voice-phishing call, it transmits the related risk information to Woori Bank in real time. Woori Bank strengthens its fraud detection system (FDS) monitoring of the customer and takes protective measures, such as additional identity verification or customer notifications, according to its internal procedures when a suspicious transaction occurs.
Existing voice-phishing countermeasures in the financial sector have focused primarily on financial transaction information, such as account transfers. As a result, there have been limitations in identifying pre-transaction risk signals, including whether a customer spoke with a suspicious number, was infected with a malicious app, or spoke with someone using an AI-modified voice. The new service aims to close this gap by incorporating information detected in the telecommunications sector into the bank's customer protection system.
The two companies have shared information on new fraud methods and countermeasures through a working group since signing a business agreement to prevent voice-phishing losses last August. After pilot operations and technical verification, they established an integrated system that reflects call-stage risk information in financial transaction monitoring in real time.
LG Uplus plans to increase the number of participating financial institutions and gradually expand ixi-O's customer protection features. It is also considering notifying a pre-registered guardian of the risk situation and response information when a dangerous situation is detected during a call.
Yoonho Choi, head of LG Uplus's AI Business Group, said, "Because voice phishing is a crime that begins during a call and leads to financial losses, the telecommunications and financial sectors must respond together to increase the effectiveness of prevention. We will continue expanding a customer protection system that connects telecommunications and finance, centered on ixi-O."
