The police will launch a formal investigation into a series of simultaneous hacking incidents targeting the financial sector, including commercial and savings banks, and will designate a dedicated investigation team to handle the case.
The National Office of Investigation said on the 6th that, after verifying the facts, it had booked the case on suspicion of violating the Information and Communications Network Act.
Given the seriousness of the matter, the Korean National Police Agency Cyber Terror Investigation Unit will be designated as the dedicated investigation team and will conduct an intensive investigation.
The dedicated investigation team consists of four teams and 28 members, led by the head of the Cyber Terror Response Division.
The National Office of Investigation stated, "We will conduct the investigation swiftly and rigorously while working closely with relevant agencies to ease public anxiety."
