Seoul at 10.2°C as Morning Temperatures Plunge Nationwide; Cold Wave Advisories Issued in Parts of Gangwon

As cold air moved down from the northwest, temperatures dropped sharply across central and inland areas on the morning of the 6th. A cold wave advisory was issued for parts of Gangwon State, while temperatures fell below 5°C in spots across inland and mountainous areas of Gyeonggi and Gangwon State, North Chungcheong Province, and northeastern North Gyeongsang Province, including Daegwallyeong Pass, where the morning low reached 1.6°C.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, the lowest temperature in Wangsan, Gangneung, fell to 1.0°C as of 6 a.m. The readings were 1.6°C at Daegwallyeong Pass, 2.5°C at Panmunjom in Paju, and 2.8°C at Baegun in Jecheon. Among major cities, temperatures were 8.5°C in Suwon, 8.7°C in Sejong City, 10.2°C in Seoul, and 10.3°C in Daejeon.
The low morning temperatures are expected to continue through the 8th. Morning temperatures will be about 5°C lower than on the previous day, the 5th, while some mountainous areas of Gangwon State will see drops of about 10°C. Inland areas nationwide will remain around 10°C, while inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State will stay at or below 5°C.
Temperatures will rise during the day, widening the gap between daytime and nighttime temperatures to around 15°C. Winds will also be strong through the morning of the 6th, making the apparent temperature feel even lower.
Ice is expected to form in parts of the mountains of Gangwon State on the 6th and 7th. Frost is also likely in some inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State and the northeastern mountains of North Gyeongsang Province. The Korean Meteorological Administration advised people to take precautions for their health and crops amid the large daily temperature swings.
