According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on the 6th, a send-off ceremony for the Korean delegation, organized by the MCST and the Korea Paralympic Committee (KPC), will be held at 2 p.m. that day at the Icheon National Training Center in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
About 400 people will attend, including Kim Dae-hyun, Second Vice Minister of the MCST; KPC President Jung Jin-wan; and athletes and coaches. The ceremony will include an introduction of the delegation and a presentation of the delegation flag. Training on disaster and safety response and anti-doping measures will follow.
The Games will take place from the 18th to the 24th in Aichi Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The Korean delegation consists of 214 athletes, 104 competition officials and 39 headquarters officials.
Delegation members will depart for Japan in stages from the 10th, according to the schedules for their respective sports. A departure ceremony will be held at Incheon International Airport on the 14th, and the delegation is scheduled to return to Korea on the 25th after the Games.
The Games will be held across six regions without a central athletes’ village. Accommodations will be divided between one small athletes’ village for table tennis, fencing and wheelchair basketball athletes and 17 hotels.
Because the athletes will be living across several regions, it is important for support staff to quickly assess the circumstances in each sport. Smooth communication between the field and medical teams is essential to minimize support gaps resulting from the decentralized format.
To this end, the MCST and KPC will dispatch a total of 36 officials, with two assigned to each sport, to oversee delegation operations and safety management. Medical rooms will operate in each region, while specialists in rehabilitation medicine and orthopedics will be stationed at the athletes’ village and the medical headquarters in Region 1.
Physical conditioning using recovery equipment and psychological support will also be provided. Each sport will receive support for at least one visit to a Korean restaurant or Korean boxed meals, while a mobile convenience store service will distribute Korean snacks in each region.
Vice Minister Kim said, "I hope the athletes can fully demonstrate their best abilities in their respective positions and complete the Games in good health." He added that he would work to support their safety and performance at the venue.
