[Financial News] Kim Nam-cheol, vice president of Wooyang Industrial Development's Hilton Gyeongju, was awarded the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for his contributions to the development of South Korea's tourism industry after successfully hosting major events, including the Gyeongju APEC Summit.
Kim, who received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 53rd Tourism Day commemoration ceremony on September 30, said on the 5th, "I received this meaningful award thanks to the colleagues who have worked alongside me in the field for many years and the support of the local community." He added, "I will continue to do my best to advance the tourism industry and promote tourism in local communities."
A career hotel executive who entered the hotel industry in 1975 and has worked at major hotels and in the tourism industry in South Korea for 51 years, Kim oversaw and successfully conducted official events at last year's Gyeongju APEC Summit. These included a leaders' dinner hosted by the president, a high-level dialogue on cultural industries, a dinner for the joint foreign affairs and trade ministers' meeting, and a luncheon for the first lady.

As the headquarters hotel for the U.S. delegation, including President Donald Trump, Hilton Gyeongju provided top-quality accommodation and food-and-beverage services. It received a letter of appreciation from the White House, earning international recognition for its private-sector diplomatic capabilities.
Kim contributed to national diplomacy by providing lodging and protocol services for numerous international events, including the 1993 Korea-Japan summit, the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, 14 inter-Korean separated-family reunions held from 2002 to 2010, and the 2005 Korea-U.S. summit.
Kim also serves as an adjunct professor at Dongguk University WISE Campus, where he is working to train the professionals who will lead the hotel industry in the future.
