[Financial News] emart24 is expanding its rollout of gas station-convenience stores in partnership with a Cambodian energy company. The strategy is to expand its footprint from city centers to transportation hubs and reach more local customers.
According to industry sources on the 5th, emart24 Cambodia opened its first gas station-convenience store, emart24 BVM Kour Srov, on the 27th of last month. It plans to open two more stores of the same type by the end of the year.
In July, emart24 Cambodia signed an MOU on exclusive operating rights within the gas station network of local energy company BVM Petroleum. The two companies plan to use emart24's convenience store expertise and products, along with BVM's gas station infrastructure, to expand the gas station-convenience store format to as many as 50 locations.
The first store opened at a BVM gas station near National Road 2, which connects southern Phnom Penh. The 58-pyeong store sells K-food items such as tteokbokki and hot dogs, as well as beverages, snacks and other convenience store products.
emart24 took note of the high accessibility of gas stations in Cambodia, where motorcycles and cars are widely used. After expanding beyond Phnom Penh to major provincial cities such as Sihanoukville, Siem Reap and Battambang, the company is also pursuing new store openings at gas stations.
emart24 currently operates 42 stores in Cambodia. It aims to increase that number to 70 by the end of this year.
An emart24 representative said, "By combining BVM's gas station network with emart24's products and operational capabilities, we will provide local customers with a convenient shopping experience and continue expanding our business in Cambodia."
