[Financial News] An unusual exhibition by Kim Hwa-joo, a Western painter renowned for depicting traditional Korean jangdok earthenware jars, is currently being held at Busan’s Munhyeon Art Center.
The “2026 Planned Invitational Exhibition ‘Seoganmun’—Kim Hwa-joo Exhibition,” which opened on the 3rd with support from the Busan Nam-gu Cultural Foundation, will run through the 19th at the Art Talk Gallery of Munhyeon Art Center in Nam-gu, Busan.
The artist is presenting recent works that express the many moments of life and inner confessions through the visual language of color and texture.
The exhibition’s title, “Seoganmun,” means “a letter beyond language” that is written and sent with care. Through a labor-intensive aesthetic process of layering and refining colors on the canvas, the artist creates a profound visual pause and resonance rather than visible forms.
Viewed from a distance, the works appear as neat and cozy fields of color. As viewers move closer, however, countless delicate stories emerge from the layers built up within them.
This is because the joys and sorrows of life, longing, love, and sincere confessions that cannot be fully expressed in words have been etched onto the canvases through honest silence and quiet whispers.
In her artist’s note, Kim Hwa-joo said, "My ‘Seoganmun’ is both ‘a letter beyond language’ sent with care and a body of work that embraces the countless moments and acts of emptying in life that are easily overlooked." She added, "I hope this exhibition will become a deep resonance conveyed to viewers through color and texture rather than concrete forms, and an opportunity for people to open their hearts to one another’s sincerity and share freedom of mind and healing."
Kim Hwa-joo has presented her work approximately 450 times through 10 solo exhibitions, domestic and international group exhibitions, and curated invitational exhibitions. She is active in the Korean Fine Arts Association, Busan Fine Arts Association, Busan Women’s Art Exhibition, Busan Watercolor Association, and Ilpeo Center. She has also served as a judge for the Busan Fine Arts Exhibition and the Daegu Fine Arts Exhibition.
