[Financial News] Hyun Jeong-eun, chairwoman of Hyundai Group, has been reappointed honorary governor of Chungcheongbuk-do. She established ties with Chungcheongbuk-do in 2019 when she decided to relocate the headquarters and production plant of Hyundai Elevator, a key affiliate, to Chungju.
Hyundai Group said on the 4th that Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun received an appointment certificate as honorary governor from Shin Yong-han, governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, at a ceremony held on the 2nd at Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The honorary governor system in Chungcheongbuk-do appoints prominent individuals who have contributed to regional development and enables them to participate in various activities supporting provincial administration, including policy recommendations and advisory services. Chairwoman Hyun has continued to serve through renewals and reappointments since she was first appointed in 2020.
The latest appointment is expected to provide an opportunity for Hyundai Group and the ninth popularly elected Chungcheongbuk-do administration, which launched in July, to continue their partnership for regional development and further expand their mutually beneficial cooperation.
After relocating the headquarters and production plant of its affiliate Hyundai Elevator to Chungju, Hyundai Group opened Hyundai Elevator Chungju Smart Campus in 2022 as a production hub and research and development (R&D) center. Last year, it completed Hyundai Asan Tower, a 250-meter-high high-rise elevator test tower, on the campus, establishing a business base centered in Chungju that spans production through R&D.
Hyundai Group is expanding its activities to promote mutual growth with local communities into various areas, including talent development and employment.
Hyundai Elevator has continued its community-focused social contribution efforts, including the establishment of the Orurak Choir for People with Disabilities. It is also supporting local talent development by operating an industry-academia linked education program with Chungju Technical High School. Last year, the company donated the proceeds from its in-house café for people with disabilities, Ellis, to the Chungcheongbuk-do Comprehensive Welfare Center for People with Disabilities.
Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun said, "I find it meaningful that the ties between Chungcheongbuk-do and Hyundai Group have led to a journey of growing together with the local community. We will continue to contribute to Chungcheongbuk-do's new leap forward toward the future based on cooperation for mutual growth."
Shin Yong-han, governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, also said, "The philosophy emphasized by Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun—'Act proactively and challenge boldly'—aligns with the spirit of putting into practice Chungcheongbuk-do's vision of 'Chungcheongbuk-do Transformation, Practical Chungcheongbuk-do for People's Livelihoods.' I hope you will serve as a dependable landmark for Chungcheongbuk-do as it pioneers future advanced industries, including semiconductors, secondary batteries and biotechnology."
