[Financial News] Hancom Foundation announced on the 5th that the 'Multicultural Harmony Camp: The Joy of Being Together,' held from the 4th to the 5th, successfully concluded amid an enthusiastic response from participants.
Held at Cheongrium in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, the camp was the first official event hosted by Hancom Foundation since its establishment. It was the foundation's second camp, following the one held in the first half of this year, and expanded to the foundation level Hancom Group Chairman Kim Sang-cheol's five-year initiative to support multicultural families. Multicultural families from 12 countries, including China, Vietnam and the Philippines, participated alongside Rotary International District 3640 and Umoonji volunteers. In total, approximately 500 people took part, far exceeding initial expectations and creating a large-scale gathering of harmony.
At the opening ceremony on the first day, scholarships totaling 30 million won were awarded to 30 teenagers from multicultural families, adding significance to the event. The scholarships were jointly provided by Hancom Foundation, Rotary International District 3640 and Umoonji. Umoonji also signed separate memorandums of understanding with Gapyeong County Family Center and Guri City Family Center, promising education and support for multicultural families in the local communities.
Over the two-day, one-night program, participating families took part in diverse cultural activities designed to break down barriers of national borders and language. The program began with a moving performance by the Areumdeuri Multicultural Choir and a special lecture by Sim Yong-hwan, head of a history research institute. On the green lawn, comedians Kim Jun-ho, Kim Dae-hee and Hong In-gyu hosted a variety of games for the entire family.
A Hangeul-themed calligraphy experience and a poetry-and-painting exhibition were also arranged, giving participants time to write and turn their work into keepsakes. The international food experience booths, which featured traditional dishes from five countries including China, Vietnam and Thailand, along with the traditional games area, proved highly popular. Activities included Korea's tuho and jegichagi, Japan's kendama and China's kongzhu.
At the 'Night of Harmony' held in the evening, X:IN gave a celebratory performance, followed by a campfire around the lake, where participants gathered carrying traditional lanterns. On the second day, the program concluded with a talent-show awards ceremony and a commemorative group photo after all participants gathered on the lawn to create the large word 'Harmony,' symbolizing unity.
A Hancom Foundation official said, "Going forward, the foundation will serve as a bridge connecting people and cultures through Hangeul," adding, "We will continue to support multicultural youth and other members of the future generation so that they can grow into confident leaders of our society, and will further promote Hangeul's excellence and value around the world."
