[Financial News] KT deployed a mobile base-station vehicle under a simulated large-scale wildfire scenario and reviewed its emergency communications support and network restoration systems.
KT announced on the 5th that it had participated in the 2026 READY Korea Integrated Wildfire Suppression Exercise held in Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang Province, and organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS).
The READY Korea exercise is a government-wide disaster preparedness drill involving central government ministries, local governments, relevant agencies such as firefighting and forestry authorities, and private companies. This year's exercise focused on a large-scale wildfire, with KT the only telecommunications operator participating on site.
KT activated its emergency communications network under a scenario in which a wildfire had damaged communications facilities, then assessed whether service disruptions had occurred and determined their scope. The company also reviewed its system for sharing real-time updates between headquarters and the field and coordinating responses with group affiliates and partner companies.
In particular, KT operated mobile base-station vehicles for both the disaster safety communications network and its commercial network. The exercise focused on maintaining the quality of the disaster safety communications network used by agencies dispatched to the scene, while also providing emergency communications services to residents in affected areas and restoring the communications network.
Through the exercise, KT assessed its cooperation with relevant agencies, emergency communications support, and on-site restoration capabilities in the event of a large-scale disaster. The company plans to continue strengthening its response system to minimize communications damage when an actual disaster occurs.
Hwang Kyung-hee, head of the East Network Operations Division in KT's Network Business Unit and an executive director, said, "We will continue strengthening our network response capabilities by working closely with relevant agencies so that people experience no inconvenience in using communications services when a disaster occurs."
