[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Company's high-performance race car, The New Elantra N TCR, won the Korean round of the TCR World Tour, one of the world's top touring-car series, for the second consecutive year. Mikel Azcona swept two final races in a single round to retain the lead in the driver standings, while Norbert Michelisz climbed to second overall, demonstrating the competitiveness of Hyundai Motor Company's race cars.
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 5th that The New Elantra N TCR, known domestically as The New Elantra N TCR, won the fifth round of the 2026 TCR World Tour, held from the 2nd to the 4th at Inje Speedium in Gangwon Province.
Mikel Azcona of BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse stood out at the event. He finished first in the opening final race on the 3rd and the third final race on the 4th, securing two victories in a single round.
Azcona earned 60 points from the two wins. Adding the 14 points he received for finishing sixth in the second final race and 15 qualifying points, he gained a total of 89 points in the round alone. He consequently retained first place in the 2026 season driver standings.
His teammate Norbert Michelisz finished third in the first final race, seventh in the second, and third in the third. Including his qualifying points, he earned a total of 70 points in the round and moved up to second in the season driver standings.
BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse, which operates Hyundai Motor Company's race cars, accumulated 583 points through this round and retained second place in the overall team standings.
The victory was particularly significant because it marked a return to the top in the TCR World Tour's Korean event after last year's win. Inje Speedium is a challenging circuit featuring 20 corners that make use of the mountainous terrain and substantial elevation changes. Drivers' precise vehicle control and race-management skills are considered crucial to achieving a strong result there.
A Hyundai Motor Company official said, "We are pleased to have achieved the best result again based on our past winning experience," and added, "We will continue to work hard to deliver good results during the remainder of this season."
The TCR World Tour is a customer racing series in which professional racing teams that purchase manufacturer-built race cars compete, rather than the automakers entering directly. It is regarded as the top-level competition among roughly 40 TCR series worldwide, including continental and national events.
This year's TCR World Tour consists of eight rounds in total. The sixth round will be held in Chengdu, China, from the 16th to the 18th, followed by the remaining events in China and the Macau Special Administrative Region.
