[Financial News] On the day he received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training at school, a high school student encountered a real emergency on a bus. He calmly responded as he had been taught and saved a passenger's life.
On the 30th of last month, the YouTube channel "Han Moon-cheol TV" uploaded a video titled, "High School Student Finds an Unconscious Passenger on a Bus! It Happened to Be the Day He Learned CPR."
According to the video, an emergency occurred at around 5 p.m. on the 16th of last month aboard a city bus passing in front of Jinnam Elementary School in Tongyeong-si, South Gyeongsang Province.
Myeong U-seok, a second-year student at Geoje Technical High School, was seated toward the back of the bus. As he was moving to the front to get off, he noticed Passenger A sitting in a seat with their head tilted backward and body slumping. Passenger A was breathing heavily and appeared unstable.
Myeong checked Passenger A's condition and breathing, then tapped the passenger's chest to check for a response. He alerted the bus driver to the emergency. Together, they moved Passenger A onto the bus floor, where Myeong immediately began performing CPR.
Myeong had received CPR training at school earlier that day. Just a few hours later, he faced a real emergency and immediately put what he had learned into practice.
The bus driver immediately called the 119 emergency number, while Myeong continued CPR and monitored Passenger A's condition and breathing. Passenger A briefly began breathing again, but then stopped. Emergency responders who arrived after receiving the call took over CPR. Fortunately, a pulse returned. Passenger A was taken to a hospital, where the passenger underwent heart surgery for a myocardial infarction and is currently recovering.
Informant B said, "In a situation that could easily have caused someone to panic, the student's actions were truly admirable: he first checked the patient's condition, informed the driver, and even performed CPR himself. I hope this case serves as more than just a heartwarming story and helps people understand that anyone can face an emergency, and how important it is to call for help quickly and perform CPR when that happens."
A lawyer remarked, "There is such a thing as the golden window, isn't there? If he had been even a little later, it could have been disastrous. Thank you, U-seok. I commend you."
People who heard about the story commented, "U-seok is truly admirable," "It is amazing that the student overcame his fear and found the courage to act," "I commend this courageous action," and "The person who collapsed and the student who learned CPR that day and immediately put it into practice—it really was a fate saved by heaven."
