[Financial News] Fifty-six dogs were rescued after being found abandoned and tangled in feces inside a cramped multi-family house measuring about five pyeong (16 square meters) in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province.
According to CARE and other animal-rights groups on the 4th, CARE officials responded to a tip from a citizen and rescued 56 abandoned dogs from a multi-family house in Gwonseon District, Suwon-si, on the 23rd of last month.
At the time of the rescue, dozens of dogs were being kept in a cramped space of about 16 square meters, tangled in unremoved feces and exposed to horrific conditions.
The dog owner, identified as A, reportedly explained, "Several years ago, I brought a few dogs into my home, but they reproduced on their own and their number rapidly increased." After receiving a report on the situation and conducting an on-site inspection, Gwonseon-gu Office reported the owner to police on suspicion of violating the Animal Protection Act.
CARE actively persuaded the owner and successfully rescued the dogs. Those saved in the large-scale coordinated rescue operation are now being housed and cared for at several shelters run by the organization. Some dogs in particularly poor health have been taken to hospitals for treatment.
