[Financial News] Seoul Metropolitan Government will operate the 'One-Day Architecture Academy' once a month, offering on-site insight into the design and construction of Nodeul Global Art Island. On the 4th, Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it would expand the One-Day Architecture Academy, which was piloted twice in August and September, through 2027. The number of participants accepted for each session will also increase from 30 to 50.
Nodeul Global Art Island is a project to transform Nodeul Island into a space where nature, art and culture come together, based on 'Soundscape,' the winning competition entry by world-renowned architectural designer Thomas Alexander Heatherwick.
At the academy, a designer involved in the project explains the design process and practical aspects of the work. A site supervisor also guides participants around Nodeul Island and introduces how the design is being realized as an actual space. In odd-numbered months, the program covers specialized topics for university students interested in architecture and urban planning. In even-numbered months, it is designed to be easily understood by members of the general public.
A total of 55 people participated in the pilot programs held on August 11 and September 17. In a participant satisfaction survey, 95.6% said they were satisfied, while 91.3% said their understanding of and interest in the Nodeul Island project had increased after participating.
The program is free of charge. Applications can be submitted after checking the schedule for each session on Seoul Metropolitan Government's public service reservation website.
Ahn Dae-hee, Seoul Metropolitan Government's Director-General for Future Spatial Planning, said, "As Nodeul Global Art Island is a project being developed jointly by world-renowned architects and Korean design and construction experts, the process itself can provide citizens and students with a valuable opportunity to learn about architecture."
