[Financial News] A delivery driver's story is touching hearts after he went to deliver a pizza to a shantytown on a steep hill, saw that the customer had gathered coins in a small zip-top bag to pay for the meal, and left both the food and the money behind.
According to an online community post dated the 3rd, Mr. A, a delivery driver, shared an account of what happened recently when he delivered a pizza near a shantytown in Gwanak District, Seoul.
The customer had asked, "I'll leave the cash outside the door, so please leave the food outside the door as well." When Mr. A arrived, he found the payment in a small zip-top bag. It contained several 1,000-won bills and was packed with 100-won coins.
Beside the bag was a note written in crooked but careful handwriting. It read, "It's exactly 30,000 won. I counted it more than 10 times."
Mr. A imagined the customer painstakingly gathering money by emptying a piggy bank despite difficult circumstances. In the end, he decided not to accept either the food bill or the delivery fee. He quietly walked away, leaving the money and the pizza untouched at the door.
Mr. A said, "It was a store delivery, but the hill was steep and the other drivers weren't readily taking the assignment, so I ended up going myself. If they had broken open a piggy bank, shouldn't this money have gone into their bank account? I thought of the pizza as a small gift, so I left everything there."
He also recalled helping a person who had become trapped inside their home during a previous delivery and handing them over to the 119 emergency number responders. "I also sent the 1 million won reward money I received at the time as food to a children's home. My hope is that when I help someone, that warmth will reach another place and someday return to me in the form of something good," he added.
People who heard the story offered enthusiastic support, writing, "I can imagine how much it must have taken for them to decide to order a pizza, and it brings me to tears," "This harsh world feels warmer knowing there are delivery drivers like him," and "I hope blessings find their way to both the customer and the delivery driver."
